Future
Wisconsin; A Conservative Conference: February 24, 2007
Bluemound
Gardens Conference Center • 11703 West Bluemound Road • Wauwatosa,
WI 53226
Plans for the Future Wisconsin 2007
conference are well underway and we anticipate that our third conference
will set a new record for attendance. The day long program for conservatives
from throughout the state will be held on Feb. 24,2007 this year so as
not to interfere with the spring breaks of the students and the annual
Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington run by the American
Conservative Union (ACU). The Wisconsin Conservative Digest, the principal
sponsor of the Future Wisconsin program, is encouraging students to attend
CPAC in Washington D.C., and to get involved in the political processes.
They are our future.
Last year the conference was attended by over 500 people during the
day with 150 students present. Dave Keene of the ACU was the keynote
speaker and called the conference the best state conference of this
type. Mike Grebe, President and CEO of the Bradley Foundation called
it an "outstanding
success".
We hope to beat that record this year. The conference will be run
by Tom Keeley and his gang at the University Standard college newspapers
in the metro area. They have started a conservative college newspaper
that cover all of the universities and colleges in the Milwaukee
area. Keeley also was the college coordinator for Mark Green in the
recent gubernatorial race.
6
pm - Friday: On the Friday
night before we will assemble all of the booths, there will be a pizza
party for the students and a discussion on public policy
Saturday: The conference will open for breakfast at 7:30 AM and the first
speaker Congressman Paul Ryan, will be at 8:30. The first panel
will start at 0900 and will be chaired by former US Senate candidate
Tim Michels, and will include Mike Grebe, President and CEO of the
Bradley Foundation. The panel will discuss
jobs and development in Wisconsin, what we must do. The panel will
consisted of businessmen and entrepreneurs that have actually created
jobs in the area. Since Wisconsin was 34th in job creation in the
US last year and our record for creating really good jobs is abysmal,
it is obvious that we must do some more work. States like New Mexico
and countries like Ireland have remade their economies. It is time
for Wisconsin to look at remaking ours.
The second panel,"How to develop Good Public Policy", will
be headed up by JJ Blonien, editor of the Wisconsin Conservative Digest,
former panelist on the Belling & Company TV
show, and former owner and publisher of several weekly newspapers.
The panel will talk about how to pass good public policy, exclusive
of the wishes of all of the special interests. Last year this panel
was the best of show. This year's panel members include: Mary Jo Baas,
Past legislative liaison for MMAC, Rep. Mark Gundrum, Chris Kliesmet,
head of Citizens for Responsible government, Gerard Randall, UW
regent, President of the Private Industry council, and Sen. Tom Reynolds.
We break for lunch at about noon and then have keynote speakers;
Jessica McBride, Professor, UWM, WTMJ radio commentater, past reporter
Milwaukee Journal, and Congressman Mark Green, and past candidate for
governor.
After the keynote speeches, Tom Keeley, Publisher University Standard
newspaper will chair the panel; "The
UW-System: Problems and Solutions - A Students Perspective" This
panel will examine our state-run university system and how we can improve
it for the benefit of Wisconsin residents. Tuitions have gone up sharply,
the administrations seem incapable of modernizing and streamlining,
and problems abound as the University fails to come into the 21st Century.
This should be a great panel.
We break up the afternoon's presentations with newly elected State
Rep. Jim Ott. Ott, a former TV meterologist, who will present a discussion; "What
about global Warming?"
Wrapping
up the afternoon, Sue
Armacost, legislative liaison for Wisconsin Right to Life, will
chair the panel; "Life is Beautiful" a discussion
of why it is important to preserve and improve life for all of
us from the preborn to the aged. a panel titled "Life is Beautiful",.
This panel will focus on the fight to improve life for children, seniors,
reduce or eliminate abortions, help adoptions, and oppose euthanasia.
Essentially it is a battle between the campaign for life and the
campaigns for death..
We encourage everyone to get involved, students
will be free with the price of adults to be $60.
The conference fee includes breakfast and lunch.
